Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps. was founded in 1965. We originally ran out of Butterfield Hospital. Back then, everyone called the hospital for emergencies, whether that be fires or someone speeding, because it was the only building open 24/7. Later, we built the building we are still in on Cedar Street, right next to the VFW. A lot of our volunteers built the building by hand, and much of it was volunteered labor and supplies.
Philipstown VAC was a lot of 'firsts' for EMS in Putnam County. We were the first in the county to recieve a state certification, and the first in the county to have paid staff. We were also one of the first to utilize ALS services, which were dispatched out of Wappingers.
Ever since then, we have grown in numbers. Philipstown VAC currently has 40 volunteers and 20 paid staff. We respond 24/7 365 days a year to serve our community.
